I dont think snaffle bits need to broke in the middle. I also don’t think your first bit was a snaffle.

What an incompetent person. the first one she shows is not a snaffle. A snaffle bit does not have any shanks, indipendent whether the mouthpiece is jointed or not. Please can someone remove her? a lot of people will by buying “snaffles” with shanks, thinking: oh, well, it is snaffle, how hard a bit can it be?” Dangerous, please do not listen to her!

As long as your horse is under the age of 6, you can use any type of snaffle, plus 2 hands. If the horse is over 6, you have to have a shank bit and one hand.

if you can ride with those bits properly then there is nothing wrong with the curb bits. But if you dont know what you’re doing and are pulling randomly then yes it will have negative effects on your horse. Western curb bits are for more experianced riders and horses.
